The Protection, Gender and Disability Inclusion Associate will be responsible for facilitating the mainstreaming of Protection Gender & Disability Inclusion into programme design and implementation processes, coordination and reporting of the ongoing Country Strategic Plan (CSP) activities. The position requires travel to the Sub Offices and project areas. To undertake his/her role effectively, S/He will have to adopt a team working style, working particularly closely with Sub Offices (project staff) and other units under the guidance of the Protection Gender & Disability Inclusion Officer.
JOB PURPOSE
The Protection Gender and Disability Inclusion (PG& DI) Associate will support to integrate protection, gender and disability inclusion to WFP operations in Bangladesh to maximize safety, dignity and equality, and minimize social tensions and unintended discrimination or exclusion.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Under the supervision of the PG and DI Officer, in Bangladesh Country Office the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Regularly analyzing changes in the operational context which affect the gender issues and protection risks faced by affected people, and their ability to receive information and provide feedback or make complaints;
- Identifying potential adjustments WFP can make to maximize protection, gender and accountability to the affected population (PGAAP) outcomes; promote gender equality and transformation; and minimize risks including protection from sexual exploitation and abuse;
- Supporting implementation of gender-transformative programming including programmes for Social safety nets and for women’s economic empowerment;
- Supporting the capacity of staff, partners, contractors and other affiliated entities to implement PGAAP in their work;
- Represent WFP in interagency and other external fora, and maintain relationships with protection mandated actors.
- Documenting/reporting PGAAP activities for ad-hoc/monthly/annual reports.
- Work closely and collaboratively with Programme colleagues and partners to discuss operational and implementation issues, work together to get solutions or recommendations and/or alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level intervention and/or decision.
- Provide support and build capacity for the integration of gender into disaster preparedness, contingency, resilience and post-disaster needs assessments planning
- Support application of the Gender and Age Marker to all programmes and monitoring at both the design and evaluation stages.
- Represent WFP in interagency working groups and facilitate WFP engagement and coordination of gender networks in absence of PG & DI officer
- Liaise with the Sub-Office Protection, Gender and Disability Inclusion advisors and relevant focal persons, as well as colleagues of other UN entities, NGOs, community-based organizations and government bodies; including women’s rights organizations and the national women’s machinery.
OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Flexibility, including to travel on short notice and in challenging and difficult environments;
- Openness to intensive mentoring support with a view to taking over responsibility for protection, gender and disability inclusion in the entire operation.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Advanced university degree in one of the following disciplines: international development, law, gender studies, human rights, political or social sciences, or another related field.
Language:
Fluency in oral and written English (proficiency/Level C) is required.
Fluency in oral and written Bangla is required.
Knowlede & Skills:
In-depth and operational understanding of integrating protection, gender equality, women’s empowerment, accountability to affected populations, disability, sexual and gender-based violence, conflict-sensitive programming and humanitarian principles into humanitarian assistance.
Strong analytical, writing and communication skills. Sound knowledge and skills in training and facilitation, including adapting materials for the audience. Client orientation with excellent interpersonal and team skills, including mentoring skills. Cross-cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of UN system policies and functions of protection-mandated agencies.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in providing Protection, Gender and Disability Inclusion or in development projects, of which at least two years are direct field experience.
- Work experience must include mainstreaming or targeted action in protection and gender, as well as community engagement, feedback and complaints handling.
