Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the Customer Service Unit of Supply Chain Service. This position reports directly to the Chief, Delivery & Return Section.
Within delegated authority, the Senior Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following:
•Assists the Logistics Officers in coordinating new Missions survey/start-up teams with respect to property and inventory control; customer service surveys, evaluates requirements, and recommends additions and deletions to Strategic Deployment Stocks of equipment and commodities;
•Provides contract management support to more senior Supply Officers;
•Verifies funding, bidding, evaluation and certifies invoices with respect to requisitions;
•Act as the primary focal point for the production of field missions cost estimates;
•Undertakes research with respect to the preparation and compilation of various reports for the Unit;
•Coordinates the execution of technical evaluations for long and short-term contracts;
•Provides support to Logistics Officers in researching and obtaining data and documents related to field missions;
•Provides technical assistance with respect to vehicle insurance and vehicle database operation;
•Maintains liaison with relevant departments and field missions with respect to the status of procurement, delivery, financial and insurance matters;
•Manages the operations of a small detachment/unit and supervises assigned staff;
•Investigates and coordinates the solutions of problems;
•Assist in identifying common issues and best practices, making recommendations and developing plan to achieve objectives and increase efficiency;
•Initiates requisitions and performs technical evaluations;
•Designs and develops relevant databases and logistics programmes;
•Formulates and monitors budget allocations;
•Perform other duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification in project management (Prince 2 or equivalent) is desirable.
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience of practical field logistics operations is required.
Proven experience in programme, customer service or project administration is desirable. Experience creating complex MS Excel spreadsheets, BI reports, MS Access databases or similar is desirable. Experience supervising small teams of staff is desirable. One year of experience in project management planning, monitoring and reporting is desirable. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP ERP) is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat.
