Org. Setting and Reporting
These two positions are located in the Field Technology Section (FTS), United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Naqoura. The incumbents will report to the Chief Geospatial Information Section or his/her designate.
Responsibilities
Technical work on geospatial information service:
•Assist in the preparation of maps and geospatial analysis products;
•Collect, process and evaluate geospatial data;
•Archiving mission geospatial data and products;
•Carry out administration of the GIS web site;
•Print/plot out map production;
•Assist in carrying out geospatial/terrain analysis with extraction of data from satellite imagery.
•Assist in designing and creating info graphic maps and graphic elements developed in Adobe.
•Assist in creation, design and maintenance of the GIS web services and GIS web applications.
Administrative work performing a wide range of administrative support functions:
•Draft routine correspondence and other communications;
•Review outgoing correspondence for format, style and grammatical accuracy;
•Coordinate administrative arrangements for official travel and training requests;
•Initiate procurement action for geographic information system (GIS) equipment, software, supplies and services as well as satellite imagery by raising requisitions, and monitor expenditures and payment of invoices;
•Assist to prepare briefings and trainings to customers on GIS web applications, Google earth or others.
•Advice staff on administrative procedures and maintain up-to-date office files as well as electronic databases in various systems such as UMOJA;
•Monitor staff attendance and perform other functions that may be assigned by the Chief Geospatial Information Office or his/her designated officer.
Perform other duties as required.

Education
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Technical qualification in Geospatial Sciences (Cartography, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or equivalent), which involves geospatial information and image processing programmes is required. Certificates in the field of GIS, geography, cartography, image processing and geospatial related skills are desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant progressively responsible experience in the field of administrative and geospatial information related work are required. Good understating of maps is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
