The UNDP “Peace Building in Lebanon” project aims at enhancing mutual understanding and promoting social cohesion by (1) addressing root causes of conflict in Lebanon, (2) addressing the impact of the Syrian crisis on social stability in Lebanon; and (3) supporting different groups from local leaders and local actors, educators, journalists, youth and civil society activists, in developing medium and long-term strategies for peace building, crisis management and conflict prevention.
The project focuses on addressing the new challenges to civil peace and peace building in the country posed by the Syrian crisis throughout the following four outputs:
1. Education promoting social cohesion supported;
2. Media empowered to promote balanced and conflict sensitive media coverage;
3. Local level peace building strategies to mitigate tensions developed in selected conflict prone areas of Lebanon hosting Syrian refugees;
4. NGO platform promoting nation-wide truth and reconciliation supported ex-fighters’ role in promoting peace building supported.
Since 2014, the UNDP has been working on supporting local authorities and local actors in more than 70 communities in Bekaa, North and South Lebanon, from those hosting Syrian refugees in crisis management. Several Mechanisms for Social Stability have been thus developed and committees focusing on socio-cultural, conflict mitigation and mediation issues established. These mechanisms aim at providing a safe, common space for community groups to discuss their concerns, and to develop, in partnership with the municipalities a strategy to reduce tensions.
These Mechanisms work under the umbrella of the municipalities to achieve the following objectives:
1. Promote social stability by addressing social, economic, and security challenges facing both Lebanese communities and Syrian refugees;
2. Invigorate the role of the municipality in mitigating conflict and managing the crisis through capacity building and securing financial and human resources; and
3. Build trust between the municipality and citizens, donors, refugees, and civil society through a medium to long-term strategy for mitigating conflict and alleviating the crisis
After the end of the MSS cycle, UNDP decided to organize a big event on 12 March 2019 (date to be confirmed) to be considered as national event for the MSS where all committees coming from the 36 different villages all over Lebanon will gather and share their experiences with the donor, civil society, government and media communities.
The objectives of the MSS National event are to:
1. Celebrate the end of the 2017-2018 MSS process;
2. Share experience between the MSS Local Working Groups in Lebanon;
3. Provide opportunities for the MSS Local Working Groups to meet with potential donors;
4. Promote prevention to maintain sustainable peace and social stability at the national level;
5. Expose the MSS groups to the public audience at large including media.
The event will include 3 main sections/activities:
1. Introduction of the MSS and visual presentations of the main themes prioritized by the 2017-2018 committees, throughout Lebanon, to address the social stability: Environment, Eco-tourism, Socio-cultural and community engagement and empowerment;
2. An open exhibition where each and every committee will be presenting its Mechanism of Social Stability along with the social activities implemented and agreed on for future implementation;
3. Roundtable discussions about several interesting community-based topics.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Event Coordinator/Organizer is responsible to ensure the arrangements, logistical, administrative and preparation of the above mentioned final event run timely and smoothly in high quality manner.
The Event Coordinator will be responsible of the following activities:
1. Ensure smooth logistical preparation and execution focusing on achievement of the following results:
a. Smooth logistical preparation and execution of the event;
b. Prepare the visibility material for the event including design and printing (i.e. brochure, short video, brandings of the MSS, Pop up banners, name tags, etc.);
c. Prepare, send out, and confirm invitations;
d. Arrange procurement of meeting packages and other supporting materials and stationeries, prepare list of participants, confirmation with invitees prior to the event;
e. Floor Plans Drawings
f. Assist the production of meeting proceedings.
2. To be the person-in-charge in logistics during the event, including but not limited only to the following tasks:
a. Participants registration;
b. Event martials such as LED screen, Led Par Lights;
c. Fine Tuning and Coordination of all the Event’s Aspects.
3. Daily update on the progress status to the Project Manager and project unit and keep all relevant parties informed on issues and challenges faces for further solution/decision.
4. Any other tasks related to the final event activities delegated by the Project Manager.

Functional Competencies:

  • Excellent English and Arabic languages skills.

Required Skills and Experience

Academic Qualification:

  • BS in Business administration, Social Sciences, or others.


  • 5 years relevant work experience in coordinating, planning and managing national or international level events;
  • Experience in event exhibition with other UN Agencies.
