Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Software Deployment (SD), Software Deployment and Technical Training Team (SDTT), Software Products for Member States Unit (SPMS), Information Technology Service (ITS) within the Division for Management (DM) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Unit and overall guidance of the Chief, ITS. The incumbent will take a leading role in the development and implementation of sustainable and affordable IT solutions for relevant Secretariat entities, and to be deployed in key government institutions of Member States including anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies.

The incumbent will perform the following duties:
• Coordinate the preparation for the deployment and support missions to Member States.
• Coordinate the delivery, provide advice and support for Application systems deployed in Member States.
• As may be needed, assist in the work performed by the developers; provide technical advice and ensure compliance with the established development procedures. Ensure compliance with requirements and UNODC standard policies, guidelines and procedures for software development.
• Guide and mentor junior staff in UNODC using standard development and programming techniques and the industry’s best practices.
• Conduct technical presentations, prepare technical and user documentation for applications. Prepare training materials as may be needed.
• Perform any other work related duties as required.

Uses time efficiently.
High School Diploma or equivalent with a certification in software development with emphasis on C#.Net or C++ being an asset.
Experience with SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and relational databases is required.
Experience in Windows services is required.
Experience in designing training courses of IT windows applications is required.
Experience in training on and working with Windows forms development, Windows WPF is desirable.
Experience in managing team(s) from different cultural backgrounds is desirable.
Proven dynamic experience in developing IT projects in a wide variety of disciplines is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is desirable
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a technical test and a competency-based interview.
This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. This position is funded from extra budgetary resources. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year and any extension of appointment will be subject to the availability of the post or funds, budgetary approval or extension of the mandate.
Other Skills and Requirements
Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application.
The GGST is a proctored entry-level examination at the duty station. Any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination are the responsibility of the candidate and will not be reimbursed by the Organization.
Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
