Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located primarily in the UN Video Section, in the News and Media Division (NMD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UN Video Section produces video content highlighting a wide range of priority themes and issues on the United Nations agenda, including climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals, human rights and gender equality.. Incumbent reports to the Chief of Section.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Public Information Assistant, under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

•Provides specialized expert editing, production and delivery including filming, editing and versioning of content for documentaries, UN News and UN social media platforms.
•Keeps abreast of and implements the latest filming techniques, technical equipment and editing software, music and stock footage and editing techniques including graphics.
•Researches a broad scope of information sources for topics and materials for projects; browses UN and external archives for footage; fact checks; suggests ideas on content, selects sound and visual materials and evaluates quality of same for inclusion in productions; assists in obtaining requisite clearances and copyright licenses for section.
•Assists in the production and editing of video and film projects: interviewing of UN officials and other main characters which includes assisting with filming, editing, prepares detailed “shot lists” and checks scripts of video and film material.
•Assists in maintaining the branding guidelines and consistent look and feel of video products.
•Assists with the distribution of audio and video materials; ensures the management of audio/video archives, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical audio/visual materials.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, journalism, international relations or related area.
At least three years experience in video production including filming and digital video editing is required.
Experience with video editing software for social media, news and documentary editing, and graphics is required.
Experience in editing with Adobe Premiere software is required.
Experience in working with social media and digital communication platforms is desirable.
Experience in animation is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the posittion advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
