Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Guard Force Unit, Security Section, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Naqoura. The incumbent will report to the Chief Security Officer or his/ her designate.
1.Provide general requirement support services to help and assist the Duty Security Officers and Sector Security Officers in their duties towards the UN Staff Members, their dependents and UN Facilities.
• Ensure adequate gathering and verification of security information that may be required for a proper analysis of the situation by the Security Section Leadership.
•Support all matters pertaining to the collection, up-dating, verification, dissemination of all relevant information regarding the security situation in the UNIFIL Area of Responsibility.
• Operate any data communication equipment used by the Emergency Communications System (ECS), satellite telephone, VHF, HF, e-mail and fax, etc.
• Ensure security of database and sensitive information within the unit. Perform data entry and extraction functions.
2.Participate to the development of the Security Plan.
• Assist in the preparation of the UNIFIL Security Plan.
• Support actions during the implementation of the Security Plan, as required.
3.Monitor and facilitate the implementation of security policies and procedures in close coordination with the unit manager.
• Monitoring compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS).
• Monitoring compliance with Camp Security Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) and internal policies.
4.Conduct security training as appropriate.
• Conduct security briefings to newly arrived staff, as required.
5.Provide general administrative assistance to the Unit.
• Maintain routine and confidential correspondence files / documents.
• Process requests for compound access.
• Professionalism: Knowledge of relevant UN rules, regulations, administrative procedures, policies and directives, and of inventory and control guidelines, directives and procedures. • Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view; establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Training in military or police procedures and practices, and self-defense techniques is desirable. Training in martial arts and /or specialized security practices is desirable.
A minimum of three (03) years of progressively responsible experience in Security or related areas is required.
Experience in police or military is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.

By accepting an offer of appointment, United Nations staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and assignment by him or her to any activities or offices of the United Nations in accordance with staff regulation 1.2 (c). In this context, all internationally recruited staff members shall be required to move periodically to discharge new functions within or across duty stations under conditions established by the Secretary-General.
