Job Description
The Community Mobilizer will be responsible for working at community level to support formal school enrollment, access and retention for Syrian refugee children in North Bekaa. The Community Mobilizer will be primarily field based and will work in a team with a dedicated Project Officer for each region of North Bekaa. The Community Mobilizer will work closely with parents and key community members to support peer-learning and homework clubs, parent engagement with schools, and information/awareness raising at the community level.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform outreach activities in the North Bekaa areas covered by the project , including community-based awareness raising sessions on the importance of education, students with special needs, and access to formal schools
- Participate in needs assessments, focus group discussions, awareness raising and information activities, and liaise with M&E team for feedback on M&E assessments
- Mobilize and support Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) to support children’s learning in community areas
- Deliver mobilization and training sessions on Parenting Skills for PTA members
- Identify community members who can work as homework tutors for refugee children, and support the homework tutors with necessary stationary and monitoring
- Collect data and fill assessment forms
- Ensure proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies on ONA)
- Attend regular coordination meetings with Project Officer, Senior Project Officer and Education Manager in IRC Zahle Field Office
- Share information on successes and challenges with team
Key Working Relationships:
- Position Reports to: Senior Education Officer
- Position directly supervises: none
- Indirect Reporting: Bekaa Education Manager
Qualifications
- University degree in social science, education, pedagogy, or related field
- Minimum of 1 years working experience in the field of education conducting awareness raising and community information sessions
- Capacity to work in a team with flexibility to take on additional tasks, as needed
- Experience in working with communities (monitoring, training)
- Working experience in NGO a plus
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic mandatory English speaking is a plus
Travel and other requirements: The position will be based in North Bekaa, with some travel required between the North and IRC Zahle field office.
