To address underlying drivers of poverty, the CARE Food and Water Systems (FWS) Global Team has developed the “She Feeds the World” (SFtW) framework, which underlies all of CARE’s food and nutrition security (FNS) programming. The SFtW framework leverages CARE’s experience and tools to bring about access to productive assets and resources to women and vulnerable groups, build capacities to improve their productivity, increase incomes through agriculture and other livelihoods, increase the awareness of the negative impacts of climate change and how to mitigate them, increase access to critical nutrients and the adoption of effective behaviors to reduce malnutrition, ensure healthy lives for all members of society, and increase the capacity of women, men, boys and girls to adapt to and absorb shocks and stressors to effectively sustain their FNS.
In most countries where CARE works, farmers, particularly women, face significant challenges to increasing their productivity and engaging effectively with markets. They lack access to productive assets and resources, including finance, agricultural inputs and land. In addition, women and other small-scale producers face significant challenges engaging with markets. Agriculture and markets are seen as credible pathways to increase women’s’ income and livelihoods. Our programs aim to assist such households to find sustainable pathways toward food security.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Agriculture and Markets, the Agribusiness Technical Advisor will be a key member of the Gender Youth and Livelihoods team and will play a key role in supporting the design and development of agribusiness interventions in CARE’s FWS programs.
The Agribusiness Technical Advisor we are seeking will have demonstrated success in engaging small scale women farmers in building business capacity through sustainable agriculture and strengthening market linkages.
Responsibilities:
- Technical assistance to the design and implementation FWS programs with emphasis on Agribusiness Development.
- Develop expanded approaches to access productive assets and resources for small-scale producers
- Innovation and new business development, for FWS programming.
- Resource mobilization for FWS programming, including working with fundraising teams and Country programs to design and develop high quality proposals that integrate cutting edge agribusiness development in proposals and programs.
- Develop and share best practices in agribusiness development with emphasis on collective action for groups, associations, cooperatives and other micro, small and medium enterprises.
- Increase capacity of country offices and programs to develop cutting edge and effective agribusiness development strategies and linkages.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Development studies and or Economics.
- 5-8 years in Agribusiness Development and livelihood program design and implementation, including experience in the field.
- Experience in private sector development, business development and market linkage for producer groups and other collectives.
- Experience providing quality technical leadership and guidance to program implementation in an international and decentralized organization setting.
- Experience building agribusinesses for small scale producers particularly women.
- French, Spanish or Portuguese is an added advantage.
